Adoption FAQs
Adoption FAQs
Q: What is the adoption fee?
A: Our adoption fee starts out at $150. The adoption fee for puppies is $200 since they tend to generate additional veterinary expense. The adoption fee for one of our bull terriers is $300 because of their uniqueness and extreme popularity.
Q: Where are your dogs located and can I set up a time to meet them?
A: MABBR is fully volunteer run and most of our dogs are being fostered in homes throughout Kansas and Missouri. We frequently have events where the dogs are present for the public to come out and meet them. Follow our Calendar to see where the dogs will be next.
Q: How long does the adoption process take?
A: The length of the process varies with several factors. On average you will hear from one of MABBR’s adoption specialist within 72 hours of completing your application. The rest of the process varies depending on the ability for us to complete a home-visit, any special needs or requirements of the adoptable dog, completing necessary reference checks etc. We do our best to make the process as smooth as possible.
Q: Can I adopt from you if I live out of state?
A: MABBR volunteers do all we can to work with all applicants regardless of where you live (as long as it’s a place that doesn’t ban or have restrictions on Pit Bulls). However, we must be able to complete a home-visit. If we have a volunteer or contact in your area that can assist with this, we will do our best to try and facilitate distance adoptions. Out of State adoptions do require more effort from the adoptive family though, MABBR expects all adopters to travel to meet us and their potential new family member in person.
Q: Do I have to own my home to adopt from MABBR?
A: You do not have to be a homeowner to adopt a dog from us. However, we will have to verify with your landlord/housing authority, that your lease/rental agreement allows you to adopt a dog and that there are no restrictions against having a pit bull. Renting can be much more difficult for an owner of a bully breed. Many apartments and complexes will not allow bully breed type dogs. This must be considered if you are wanting to adopt a bully breed dog as a renter.
