MABBR Adoption
Process MABBR volunteers rescue the dogs in our program directly off of deathrow from Midwest shelters. All of the dogs are temperament tested before they are accepted into our program and then are continually socialized until they find their new home. Most of the MABBR dogs are in foster homes where they are socialized
with other dogs, children and adults. Our foster families play a big part
in our success as they not only show the dogs unconditional love and invite
them into their home, but they also spend countless hours working with
their foster dogs to ensure they are fun loving and well mannered pets.
Adopting a bully is not a decision to be taken lightly. As a bully owner you will need to be MORE responsible and will face more challenges than any other pet owner. Before thinking about adding a bully dog to your family, please do your research, understand the breed you are considering, and make sure that you are ready and completely willing to commit to that dog for the rest of it's life - no matter what. Bully owners need to be prepared to move if ever necessary. They need to be prepared to deal with hostilities and prejudice from uneducated members of the public, and they must ALWAYS follow the rules of responsible pet ownership. Incredi-Bulls all over the US are counting on the responsible owners to show the world that they are not villains, but the victims of media hype and irresponsible owners. Ready to Adopt? If you're ready, willing, and prepared to adopt a Bully into your home,
then it's time to begin the adoption process. When you have selected the dog(s) you know that you are interested in, the first step is to fill out the adoption application - APPLICATION. . Once we receive your application an adoption specialist will be in touch with your within 72 hours. (occasionaly it make take longer depending on application volume) The second step of the process is the phone interview. At this time one
of the application specialist will contact you by phone to discuss your
application, specific situation and that of the dog you are applying for.
Upon the completion of the phone interview, the application specialist
will then report to the rest of the group about what you have discussed.
At this time we will verify references, conduct additional screening,
check backgrounds, visit your location to determine if the area in general
is a safe place for a dog, and contact your veterinarian. If all goes well and your home and the dog are a match, then the adoption specialist will again go back to the group to report their findings. Upon approval, MABBR will start the trial adoption process. We do a trial period to again ensure that the new home and the dog are a good match for each other. It seems like a lot of steps and hard work - and it is - but we do this because we love these dogs and it is our duty both to them and to their prospective homes to make sure that each and every placement that we make is a good one - and one that will last for the rest of their lifetime. Once the adoption is complete and we've said our good byes to our rescue
dog, MABBR will stay in contact with their new adoptive home. We conduct
follow ups and stay in contact to help with questions, training, and to
help our adoptive homes in any way that we can. By this time we've not
only found an excellent home for our beloved bully but made a new dog
loving friend as well. At MABBR we take our adoptions personally and work
to ensure an open and honest relationship between our adopters. It is surely easier to buy a dog from a breeder - but we hope that if you're considering adopting a rescue dog that you understand that buying from a breeder only perpetuates the over population problem - and we hope that you understand that we owe it to our dogs to make sure we are placing them in the best home possible for their needs. At MABBR we believe in quality placements, not quantity and we will keep the dog in our program as long as it takes (normally between 6 mths to a year) to find their perfect forever home. We have been accused of making it more difficult to adopt a dog than to adopt a child. We surely hope this is not the case, for the children's sake. For the dogs sake however, that is an accusation that we are proud of. We believe that dogs ARE family and should be placed as such. Please note: MABBR reserves the right to decline any application as we see fit. Though your home may be an excellent place for a dog, it may not be the best place for a bully breed dog. We require an application,
home visit, and adoption contract on ALL placements. ALL MABBR dogs are
spayed or neutered PRIOR to adoption. No exceptions. |
