Lu's Story:
On July 13, 2007 37 dogs were found on a South Holland, Illinois
property, leading to the largest dog fighting bust in Illinois history.
Lucious was one of these dogs. Read
about his rescue story here.
What an incredible boy. Lucious is absolutely amazing! To see this
boys scars it is so obvious that he lived a very hard life before,
but his heart is totally and completely unscathed by it. He's a
total gem. We are so honored to have him in our program.
Faith, Family, Future…
We could see those 3 words on the water tower of the Chicago area
village that we came from.
All three of us kept our faith. We prayed that the cycle of violence
and neglect would end.
After our owner was busted for dogfighting, we prayed to pass our
temperament tests at the shelter so that rescues could take us in.
For the future? We pray for fur-ever homes!
Nicknames: Lu, Luc, Luscious
Lucious
People tell me I seem to have an old soul. I haven’t been
as fortunate as Shy and Tommy…they both have foster homes,
but I’m still in boarding. I enjoy having company. Visitors
come and take me for walks and I live for that time when I can be
with someone who cares about me.
If you aren’t ready to adopt a dog, please at least consider
fostering me, so that I can have the opportunity to thrive in a
home environment.
Luc
Lucious is truly amazing. He's a true testament to the breed and
how stable they are. He's likely seen it all and been through more
pain and hardships than we can even imagine, yet he never let it
break his spirit or take away the faith he has in people. Luc loves
people. He still needs help getting used to new situations. He spent
his life up until rescue living in a barn, so being in a house and
learning about toys was all totally new to him. He quickly learned
how comfy a nice couch is and would be totally content spending
the rest of his days curled up on one. Toys took a little longer.
It was as if he couldn't believe that he was really given something
of his own to enjoy at first. Once he got the hang of it though
he was in heaven. Now Luc likes to "horde" his toys and
hide them or burry them in his crate for safe keeping.
He is extremely smart and eager to please. He needs a patient owner
who will help him get used to all new experiences, like sliding
glass doors. He occasionally still sees his reflection and runs
to hide, instead of realizing it's just him and he's okay. We think
that is a perfectly understandable reaction when he most likely
only saw other dogs face to face when he was being made to fight.
Luc's amazing spirit and strong soul make him a truly very special
dog. He is loved by everyone who meets him and even though we frequently
see dogs that come from bad situations, Luc is a constant reminder
of how incredible and deserving a pit bull is. If people could stay
as strong and as forgiving as Luc, the world would be a much better
place. |
