Hi, I'm Tapatía!

(Pronounced Tah-pah-TEE-ah, or just Tía for short!)

Named after the famous Tapatío hot sauce for her beautiful red brindle coat, Tapatía is a gentle, loving girl who has overcome an incredibly rough past.

Her story took a turn for the better when a family on vacation spotted her on a brutally hot summer afternoon, wandering a busy highway many miles from town. She was severely neglected, dangerously underweight, and had clearly just given birth. Heartbreakingly, her puppies were nowhere to be found.

They couldn’t leave her. They took her back to their cabin, spoiling her with treats, toys, and endless cuddles while searching for help. When a local rescuer finally stepped up, they said a tearful goodbye. In just a few short days, Tía had completely stolen their hearts.

We eventually located Tía’s former owner, who agreed to surrender her. We learned she had spent years struggling through blistering Arkansas summers and freezing winters, forced to raise litter after litter in the dirt. She constantly went hungry just to keep her babies alive. We promised this sweet mama that those days are officially behind her. She spent her entire life giving everything to her puppies, and now it’s finally her turn.

The vet estimates Tía is about 6 years old, though her worn teeth make it hard to tell. Even after all she’s endured, you would never know it from her mellow nature. She is relaxed, social, and does great with the male dogs and cats she shares space with.

Tía is busy making up for lost time, finding joy in the simplest things she never knew before, such as regular meals, flea and tick relief, playing with her new friends, wading in the baby pool on hot days, and getting all the attention she can. She loves being near people, bonds quickly, and despite everything she’s been through, she’s still completely ready to trust and love.

But she’s still living mostly outdoors, and after everything she’s survived, she shouldn’t have to face another season exposed to the elements. She needs a foster or forever home to take that next step. This devoted mama deserves to be treated like the queen she is, in a home where she’s doted on, cuddled, well fed, and spoiled for the rest of her days.

After a lifetime of caring for puppies, Tía is more than ready for someone to finally take care of her!

Note: Tía is still being fully vetted, and we’ll update her medical details as we learn more. Based on her behavior so far, Tia does not have a high prey drive and gets along well with most dogs, especially males, but she’d do best as the only female dog in the home. She is around cats currently and ignores them.
