If you’re looking for a loyal and loving companion to join you on all your adventures, look no further than Mater! This brave and funny senior dog has so much love to give and is looking for a home where he can be the center of attention. Mater is an affectionate and protective pup who will always have your back. He’s a little hesitant with new people but will take his cues from you. He’s good with most dogs and does well with older kids who can respect boundaries! He will be more than happy to hang out in a room or his kennel or the backyard. Come meet Mater today and give this sweet senior the loving home he deserves!
This is what Mater’s foster dad has to say about him:
I’m not sure if Mater is actually a senior or has much pit bull in the mix, but he is a particularly loyal and intelligent dog. He is relaxed and quiet and has become quite fond of the comforts of home. He is not a dog who is needy, but he is very attentive and will soak up all the love you have to give him. He is an easy dog overall and quickly picks up on routines. He knows all the basic commands and really seems to enjoy training. Mater needs a minute to approach new people. He’s not a shy dog; it just seems that he’s suspicious of people at first. If you’re patient and let him warm up at his own pace, you will gain his trust before you know it. His bond with you will grow quickly and deeply after that.
His ideal home would be a calm household with some sunny spots for him to lounge around in. He is sensitive to activity going on around him, so horseplay or kids running around would not be a great situation for him. A dog friend might be a plus, but he’s happy just to have a person or two. He would especially love a home with someone who is retired or works from home, but he’s been great with a typical work routine too. At first, he was quite vocal expressing his displeasure to being crated, but in less than a month he has started going into the crate on his own in the morning. In two weeks, he went from needing a few minutes to relax again after hearing a car door close outside, to having no reaction whatsoever to the fireworks on New Year’s Eve. Mater is well-behaved and will be a wonderful companion in a home that suits him.
