Miss Zaya is a 2 yr old (DOB June 23, 2021) American Hairless Terrier/Pitbull mix (best guess anyway) that came to foster care (owner surrender) from California in mid-April.  Zaya has a wonderful, fun loving personality, she’s incredibly smart, knows typical commands both verbal and hand signals only, she is potty trained, crate trained, and of course, always up for a squirrel/critter chase in the yard.  Zaya will do best with a fenced yard because she loves to be outdoors – in her former home she lived in a small apartment and got little exercise.  She is hairless and sunburns easily so she wears a UV protection t-shirt, and will need warm sweaters for the midwest winters.
Important things to know about Zaya’s home requirements.  First and foremost, Zaya absolutely CANNOT be in a home with cats – there is no co-exist with felines in Miss Zaya’s world – she prefers to go for the kill.  Zaya needs to be in a home with experienced Pittie/strong-willed dog mom/dad.   She is a dominant alpha girl and will most likely do best as on only dog.  She will, however, “warm up” to other dogs but is also reactive on leash.  Zaya will require her playmate to be at least her size because she can be too rambunctious for smaller breed or senior dogs in play mode.
Before coming into foster care, Zaya was taught some inappropriate play behaviors.  She can be“mouthy” when playing especially when really enjoying herself at tummy rub time.  She was also given a shoe (or two) to play with because they are her favorite and even likes to sneak up and steal the flip flop right off your foot, then take off in a dead run with it.  She also loves to play with any squeaky toy, but could care less about chasing a ball, Frisbee, etc.  She is not destructive of her toys so squeakers & stuffing are safe and sound.
